The year 2025 sees the launch of Bomberger’s PFG™ (Precision Fine Grain) Kentucky Straight Bourbon, an innovative new offering from the Michter’s Distillery team. This marks the first release of the PFG™ label, a bourbon that takes the brand’s bold tradition a step further through meticulous craftsmanship and experimentation.
“Over the years, our flagship Bomberger’s Declaration Bourbon has always had a rich, bold nature that I love,” said Michter’s Master Distiller, Dan McKee. “This new Bomberger’s PFG™ release continues our efforts to push the boundaries of American whiskey. It’s a wonderful expression with remarkable texture and a rich spectrum of flavours, resulting from our team’s thoughtful exploration of wood science under precise conditions.”
Bomberger’s PFG™ begins its journey in a new toasted and charred American oak barrel. Once fully matured, the bourbon is transferred to a second, custom-made French fine grain oak barrel. These proprietary barrels are constructed from staves sourced from forests across France, including Tronçais, Allier, Nevers, and Vosges. The wood is seasoned for a minimum of 40 months in the Charente region, where unique environmental conditions influence the staves’ properties.
The second barrels undergo a carefully controlled toasting and charring process to precise temperature and timing specifications. The whiskey is then matured further in these barrels, creating a luxurious profile before being blended in small batches. Bomberger’s PFG™ is bottled at 100.2 proof (50.1% ABV) after undergoing the distillery’s signature filtration process.
Andrea Wilson, Michter’s Master of Maturation, described the result as “a medley of engaging aromas, from confectionery sweetness to floral notes, with a palate featuring beautifully integrated fruits and herbaceous tones. The bourbon has a full body, creamy texture, and a lingering finish with soft spice and chocolate.”
The suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle is $140 in the United States, reflecting the labour-intensive production process and premium materials used in its creation.
Bomberger’s PFG™ continues Michter’s legacy of honouring its historic roots. The brand traces its heritage back to Shenk’s distillery, established in Pennsylvania in 1753. Later renamed Bomberger’s in the 19th century, it became known as Michter’s in the 20th century, a name synonymous with craftsmanship and innovation in American whiskey.
The distillery’s dedication to precision and quality is evident in every detail of Bomberger’s PFG™, making it a notable addition to Michter’s collection. With its rich history and cutting-edge techniques, the bourbon sets a high standard for future releases.
