Casio has unveiled a new collection of G-SHOCK watches to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the DW-6900, one of its most recognisable designs. The new DW-6900TR models revive the first coloured versions of the watch, introduced in the late 1990s, and incorporate modern eco-friendly materials.
First launched in 1995, the DW-6900 became a hallmark of G-SHOCK’s tough and distinctive style, recognised for its round case, triple-graph display, and front button. Over the years, the watch has been a favourite for collaborations, serving as the base for more than 100 special-edition releases with brands, artists, and environmental organisations.
The anniversary models pay tribute to the DW-6900H, the first in the series to introduce colours beyond the classic black. The DW-6900TR comes in the original black, red, and yellow colourways, evoking a strong sense of 1990s nostalgia. A unique anniversary feature includes the phrase “SINCE 1995” appearing on the LCD screen when the backlight is activated, referencing the year the model debuted. Additionally, the case back is engraved with 30 stars to mark the milestone.
A Blend of Retro and Modern Innovation
Casio has incorporated several enhancements to the classic design. The front button is now crafted from metal with a mirror finish, giving it a refined look and a bold presence with the “G” mark. The bezel and strap are made from bio-based resin, a material aimed at reducing environmental impact, in keeping with Casio’s commitment to sustainability.
The watch’s packaging reflects the commemorative theme, featuring the G-SHOCK “G” mark in the signature colours of black, red, and yellow. This attention to detail highlights the brand’s dedication to blending heritage with innovation.
A Legacy of Toughness and Style
G-SHOCK, introduced by Casio in 1983, revolutionised wristwatch design by prioritising toughness. Over the decades, it has continually evolved through new materials, technological advances, and bold design choices. The DW-6900 is considered one of the five iconic G-SHOCK styles, alongside the square-shaped 5000 and 5600 models, the three-dimensional 110, and the octagonal 2100.
Casio’s guiding philosophy, “Through the power to put wonder at hand, bring new levels of joy to lives one by one,” is evident in its approach to the anniversary collection. By reintroducing the colours that first expanded the DW-6900’s appeal while incorporating contemporary sustainability efforts, the brand continues to honour its legacy while looking towards the future.
The DW-6900TR models offer fans and collectors a chance to own a piece of G-SHOCK history, blending 1990s aesthetics with modern craftsmanship.
