A Midlands-based law firm is backing one of its trainee solicitors as he continues his professional boxing career.
Oscar McCracken, 25, a trainee corporate solicitor at mfg Solicitors, will compete in a welterweight contest on 14 February at the Holiday Inn near Birmingham Airport. The law firm is sponsoring McCracken’s fight, which will be his third professional bout after winning his first two.
McCracken, who began his two-year training contract with mfg Solicitors in September 2024, is on course to become the UK’s first ever qualified solicitor and professional boxer when he completes his qualification in 2026.
Speaking ahead of the fight, McCracken said he was grateful for the support from his firm.
“It means so much that the firm has chosen to back me for my next fight,” he said. “Boxing is in my blood, but I’m also committed to building a successful legal career, and I’m really enjoying my training contract so far. To have the support of my colleagues at mfg Solicitors makes this even more special for me. I couldn’t be happier to be part of such a fantastic firm.”
McCracken comes from a respected boxing family. His father is a former professional boxer and trainer, while his uncle, Rob McCracken CBE, is a renowned coach credited with training world champions such as Anthony Joshua and Carl Froch.
The young fighter’s unusual career path has already drawn national attention, and he has earned the nickname ‘Oscar De La Lawyer’—a nod to legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya, after whom he was named.
Clare Lang, a partner at mfg Solicitors, said the firm was proud to support McCracken as he balances his legal career with his boxing ambitions.
“Oscar has made a big impact since joining us last year and is showing real promise,” she said. “We love that he has such a unique story, and we are all fully behind his boxing career. Sponsoring his next fight is part of our support for him, and we can’t wait to see him extend his unbeaten record.”
mfg Solicitors, which has offices in Worcester, Birmingham, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove, Ludlow, and Telford, has a long history of supporting talent across different fields. The firm’s sponsorship of McCracken is part of its wider commitment to backing individuals who strive for excellence both professionally and personally.
As McCracken prepares for his upcoming fight, he remains focused on both his legal studies and his ambitions in the ring. If victorious, he will move a step closer to establishing himself as a rising star in professional boxing while continuing his journey towards qualifying as a solicitor.
