A Bradford-based care provider is set to hold a charity Christmas ball in honour of rugby legend Rob Burrow, raising funds for the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Appeal at Leeds Hospital. Care2Care (Yorkshire) Ltd, which specialises in home care across West Yorkshire, will host the star-studded event on Friday, 29 November, at the Coniston Hotel near Skipton.
The evening will feature a moving conversation between former Leeds Rhinos captain Stevie Ward, a close friend of Burrow, and ex-Huddersfield Town footballer Marcus Stewart, who has been living with motor neurone disease. Their discussion aims to shed light on the condition and the urgent need for support.
Star Guests and Fundraising Auctions
Adding to the night’s excitement, former rugby star Charlie Beech will preside as auctioneer for a charity auction offering exclusive items and experiences that are otherwise unavailable. The evening will also include a raffle in support of the MS Society. Guests will enjoy a three-course Christmas dinner, live music, and dancing, making it a memorable celebration for a meaningful cause.
Michelle Wood, Corporate & Events Manager at the Coniston Hotel, expressed her enthusiasm: “We’re delighted to be hosting this event to support such a worthy cause. This promises to be a fantastic evening for all attendees.”
A Legacy of Advocacy
Rob Burrow, a Leeds Rhinos legend and one of Super League’s most celebrated players, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019. Alongside his former teammate Kevin Sinfield, Burrow worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funding for the disease, inspiring many through their dedication. The duo’s efforts earned them both CBEs before Burrow’s death earlier this year.
Care2Care Chief Operating Officer Phill Lautman said: “It’s an honour to hold this event in Rob’s memory. As Care2Care celebrates its 10th anniversary, it’s a privilege to mark this milestone while contributing to a cause that touches so many lives.”
Supporting a Growing Need
Care2Care has experienced increasing demand for its specialist care services, particularly for individuals with complex health needs. The company views this event as an opportunity to give back to the community while raising awareness about the impact of motor neurone disease.
The Coniston Hotel, nestled within a 1,400-acre estate in the North Yorkshire countryside, will provide the backdrop for the ball. Known for its luxurious amenities, the venue adds an extra layer of elegance to the evening’s festivities.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Leeds Hospital Charity to fund the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, a vital initiative aimed at improving care and support for patients and their families.
