Charlotte Dawson has opened up about the challenges she’s faced during her first trimester, as she expects her third child with fiancé Matthew Sarsfield. The 31-year-old daughter of the late comedian Les Dawson took to social media to share her emotional journey, offering both gratitude and a plea for kindness from her fans.
Charlotte, known for her role in Ex on the Beach, announced her pregnancy just weeks after a sexting scandal involving Matthew came to light. The incident left her devastated, as she discovered that her fiancé had been exchanging explicit messages with an ex-girlfriend of one of his rugby friends. Charlotte made the decision to ask Matthew to leave their family home in the wake of the scandal.
However, despite the hurt and humiliation, Charlotte has given Matthew a second chance. Speaking candidly, she shared how Matthew had apologised, not only to her but also to a life-size cardboard cutout of her late father, Les Dawson. “I made Matthew go and say sorry to the life-size cardboard cutout I keep of my dad,” Charlotte explained. “He has a lot of making up to do with my mum, too.”
Now, the TV personality is trying to focus on her pregnancy and navigate her emotions, though the journey has not been easy. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Charlotte revealed that this should be one of the happiest times in her life, but instead, it has been the most challenging.
“Thank you for all the comments and messages!! I’m overwhelmed and will try to get back to everyone, but just so you all know, I love you and I’m very grateful for you all. For the negative ones, remember I’ve had to deal with all this whilst being in my first trimester, which has been extremely tough,” she wrote. “What’s meant to be the happiest time of your life has been the worst of mine.”
Charlotte urged her followers to be considerate with their words, asking that if they couldn’t be kind, they should refrain from commenting altogether. She also addressed the criticism she’s faced for deciding to continue her relationship with Matthew, making it clear that it is her life and her choice.
Charlotte continued: “Every baby is a blessing, and I’m so blessed right now. I’m really trying to remain calm and look after this baby. Also, whatever I decide to do with anyone else, it’s my life, not yours. I appreciate all your advice and support, but some people get far too involved and nasty. Just no need.”
Amidst the turmoil, Charlotte remains hopeful for the future. She admits that while her relationship with Matthew has been strained, particularly under the pressures of family life, she still cares deeply for him. “We’ve found it hard to find time together,” she admitted. “I still want to rip his clothes off, even though I want to chop his d*** off, too.”
As Charlotte prepares for the arrival of her third child, she’s holding onto the hope that things will improve, particularly if they have a baby girl. “It would be amazing to have a little girl – for Matthew, too. I think being a girl dad will make him a better man, but we’ll see.”
The road ahead remains uncertain for Charlotte and Matthew, but Charlotte is determined to do what’s best for her children. Although Matthew has promised to make amends, Charlotte has yet to decide on the future of their engagement. “He needs to change,” she concluded.
