European Wellness has opened a state-of-the-art medical facility in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, marking a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare and medical tourism sectors. The European Wellness New Premier Centre, covering 60,000 square feet, is designed to combine advanced regenerative medicine with the natural environment of Sabah, positioning the state as a key player in global medical wellness tourism.
The grand opening attracted notable dignitaries, including Sabah’s Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor, Sabah State Minister of Finance, YB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun, and H.E. Dr. Khalid Abdulla Mubarak Albuainain Almazrouie, Advisor to the President of the UAE. This latest facility is a significant investment by European Wellness (EW) founders, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan and Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Michelle Wong.
Chief Minister Hajiji lauded the new centre as a game-changer for Sabah, praising the founders for their vision in elevating the local healthcare sector. “This facility combines state-of-the-art medical science with our unique natural environment,” Hajiji said. “It strengthens Sabah’s healthcare capabilities while boosting our standing on the global medical tourism map.”
Sabah’s strategic location in Southeast Asia, particularly its role in the BIMP-EAGA and ASEAN regions, is expected to attract international investment and talent. The centre’s opening also aligns with the state’s ambition to position itself as a hub for advanced healthcare and medical wellness tourism. “We are positioning Sabah at the forefront of the global health and wellness revolution,” Hajiji added.
European Wellness specialises in regenerative medicine, offering a range of more than 60 advanced therapies. These include cutting-edge treatments such as organ-specific stem cell therapy, which is expected to revolutionise healthcare. The centre employs over 300 professionals, providing personalised healthcare solutions for patients seeking both advanced medical treatments and holistic wellness services.
Dr. Khalid Abdulla Mubarak praised the opening of the European Wellness New Premier Centre, highlighting the global significance of its medical advancements. “The work of Prof. Chan in stem cell therapy is groundbreaking and represents the future of healthcare,” Dr. Khalid said. “This facility has the potential to improve healthcare outcomes worldwide.”
However, Dr. Khalid also stressed the importance of making these treatments more accessible to a broader population. “Stem cell therapy remains costly and limited in availability,” he noted. “Expanding access and reducing costs are crucial to making these life-changing therapies more widely available.”
The opening of the new centre is part of European Wellness’s wider expansion plans. This includes establishing a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, with an investment of USD 80 million. The facility is expected to double the workforce and further bolster Sabah’s status in global healthcare.
European Wellness’s new centre represents international collaboration and healthcare innovation, promising to set new standards in medical wellness and transform Sabah into a leading destination for medical tourism.
